Lina I am

I was born in Denmark in 1961.

From 1981 I learned to work in gold through a traditional apprenticeship at one of the large production workshops in Copenhagen. This training is all about how to handle the tools and understanding the materials. Discipline, repetition and time is what it takes to make you a good craftsman. In the years after my training, I felt frustrated to realize that the very same focus on the tools had built a barrier between myself and my ability to express myself creatively in the precious metals. This led me to enroll for a semester at Parson's School of Design in New York, studying something else; painting.

The work in the soft medium made me experience a breakthrough and I finally found myself connected to the creative source. To complete my education, I returned to Denmark to work at Georg Jensen's Silversmiths A/S in Copenhagen where I dedicated myself to the production of the Georg Jensen original art nouveau silver jewelry, which trained me to understand silver as material as well, and taught me about jewelry production.

In 1991 I opened my own studio workshop connected to my recently founded Galerie Tactus. From here I started a long creative journey which resulted in my own collections. During the next 15 years I became a Master goldsmith and educated 5 Danish goldsmiths from my studio workshop. From 1998 to 2011 I was assigned as a designer for Georg Jensen Silversmith A/S, where I developed the "Extra" bangle and three full jewellery collections.  "Extra" was later named one of Georg Jensen's Icons, this design is now back in my own collection.

While always working from the same bench, my studio has had various locations over the years. After two wonderful years of working from the Clock Tower at Glen Estate in The Borders area of Scotland, I have now returned to Denmark and welcome my clients in my studio-gallery at Langebækgård in the very south of Zealand. Please contact me for appointment at lina@linachristensen.com.

My work is also sold from the Museum Store Store, Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, Gl Strandvej 13, 3050 Humlebæk.

My love for the relationship between craftsmanship and design led me on a different journey to start a project I called "Hand to Hand" in Isaan, Thailand.  Here I started a small handcraft jewelry production from 2007 - 2017 where we educated 12 local goldsmiths.  The Hand to Hand project has now changed into working with other materials such as silk and papyrus merging the skills of Nordic designers and traditional Thai craftsmanship.  New work is under development.

Throughout my career I have been intensely interested in the philosophy of the creative process which unfolds in my One-Off jewelry, a process I call Connected Creation. The handcrafted LINA jewelry collection, sold from museum stores and from my own webshop, is the essence of this work.
